e invited me over for dinner so I decided to bring the best bottle I knew, Clos du Bois Merlot. Feeling proud as I handed it over, he looked at it and said, "No, yeah, this is a good one." Looking back, I now know Ben was merely being polite. As the night continued, he succeeded in impressing me with his wine knowledge, his French.. (Of course, in his not-so-subtle yet charming way) and the rest is history. I was hooked. This marked the beginning of my future of life, love and wine! Three years later, I married him. Thank goodness for him and thank goodness for me because I no longer have just one favorite bottle of wine.
Since Hipster Enology first began, that one fateful day in our Los Angeles apartment complex, life has been accentuated nicely with wine. Every experience shared with a new bottle that always has a story to go along with it. As you may have guessed by now, my expertise in wine is wrapped up in the experience of it. What can I say, I'm a romantic and I like to drink. So, even though my palate may be the least trained of the Hipsters, it's still refined. While my writing partners are off honing their wine making skills and/or sales knowledge, I'm happily dabbling in all wine whichever way I can get my hands on it.
I'm a court reporter and like many folks, the one thing I need to be certain of is drinking a good glass of wine when I come home. As most reporters will tell you, our job doesn't lend itself to much creativity, so it's nice to write wine reviews, go to wine tastings, and travel with my husband and wine partners as my creative outlet. It takes the edge off and lets me live life to the fullest with the people I care about most.
As the retro diva herself, Chaka Khan, awesomely debuted the power anthem "I'm Every Woman," I feel as if "I'm every wino," debuting my first take on a wine for the new wino, the lay wino, the aspiring wino, and the new freshly cultivated wino. I can't always tell you the exact specs or processes of a wine, but I can sure tell you when and where you should be enjoying that bottle and how the experience might make you feel. Like you, the reader, I'm always growing and learning in this world of wine and through this site I hope to take you along with me.
